Burglary discovered at Martin Luther King Jr. Park

Someone broke into the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy maintenance facility over the weekend and caused some damage.

Police said someone jumped the gate to get into the facility’s yard at 1151 Fillmore Ave. on the northern edge of Martin Luther King Jr. Park between 3 p.m. Friday and 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The suspect then pried off six boards and damaged the northern wall of the park’s maintenance room but didn’t get into the building.

The suspect then hot-wired a city-owned truck in the yard and drove it through the front gates.

Stan Jennings, parks manager for the conservancy, found the damaged truck at 1122 Genesee St. on the park’s southern edge, with its engine still running

Two water barrels also were taken from the yard.
