TOWN OF PORTER – A hunter who had been reported missing late Saturday afternoon was found dead by his hunting partner in a wooded area of Youngstown-Wilson Road and Ransomville Road.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said the death does not appear to be suspicious, but crime scene investigators were called to the scene and an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
The hunting partner called the sheriff’s office at about 6:30 p.m. to report that he was unable to locate the other hunter, who had a cell phone and a radio but did not answer either device.
The Niagara County 911 center used GPS technology to determine that the missing hunter’s last signal was south of 2408 Youngstown-Wilson Road.
Police and fire responders from Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. began their search around 7 p.m. By that time, the hunter who made the initial call dialed 911 again to report that he had found his partner in the woods, about 1,000 feet from the road.
The hunter, whose name has not yet been released, was dead at the scene.
