A heavily promoted Kelly Clarkson concert to be held today in Buffalo has been postponed due to the singer’s illness.
Microsoft, which has a tie-in with the popular singer, announced the postponement Friday night.
“Following Kelly Clarkson’s Thursday night concert in Tennessee, she became ill. Unfortunately, Kelly will be unable to perform at the scheduled Microsoft store concert on Nov. 16. The show will be rescheduled in the next few months, and specifics will be announced later by Facebook, email and other channels,” said a Microsoft spokeswoman.
A free concert ticket giveaway scheduled to take place outside the Microsoft Store at Walden Galleria overnight Friday continued as planned.
“Kellebrities,” as Clarkson’s fans are called, started lining up outside the store at 10 p.m. Friday in preparation for the store’s grand opening at 10 a.m. today.
The first 100 customers in line will receive free tickets for a meet-and-greet with the “American Idol” winner and pop star, as well as tickets to the concert she was to perform tonight at Erie Community College’s Burt Flickinger Center.
Clarkson was never scheduled to appear in the mall at the store opening.
The singer tweeted a picture of her dog Friday afternoon, with a message that he had passed away:
“My best friend died yesterday. Joplin was special. He fought his whole life to survive & now he can rest. I loved him.”
The timing led people on social media to speculate the death of her pet was the reason for the cancellation.
“We don’t comment on rumors or speculation,” said Nicole Smith, a spokeswoman for the Microsoft store.
Grace Breen and her friend, Hannah Dompkowski, both 15 of Lewiston, arrived at the mall at 6:30 p.m. Friday, supplied with blankets, snacks and cellphones to camp out.
They’ve been big Clarkson fans since age 9.
Rather than disappointment, they felt relief when word broke the concert would be postponed.
“Now we’re able to get some rest after the tickets are distributed!” Breen said.
