Holiday Valley art sale is Saturday

ALLEGANY – The Main Lodge at Holiday Valley will be busy Saturday with artists selling their wares to Christmas shoppers.

The annual Routes to Art Holiday Sale has been moved to a new location and a new date, according to Cattaraugus County Arts Council Director Anne Conroy-Baiter, and that change has resulted in more vendors looking to sell their works of art to as many visitors as possible in the one-day holiday sale.

“We started this sale four years ago and held it in the Seneca Nation Administration Building,” Conroy-Baiter said.

“The building is truly beautiful, but with all the artists this year, and moving the event up a month, we decided to move it to Holiday Valley.”

Having the sale before the season really kicks off was a key, and was met with what seems to be welcoming anticipation from the staff at the Ellicottville resort, officials said.

The Main Room at the newly constructed lodge, overlooking the slopes, will host 28 artists, up from last year’s 17, Conroy-Baiter said.

Those artists are part of the Routes to Art tour that takes place every spring, adding a bit of knowledge to the level of craft that each artist brings, and giving visitors a chance to find pieces that meet their price range, be it a gift for a teacher or colleague or a masterpiece for above a mantle someplace special.

Vendors will have pieces ranging from jewelry to paintings, glasswork to handmade plush animals and photographs.

Vendors will be open for customers at 10 a.m. Saturday and will continue selling their wares until 5 p.m. Children and adults can take part in face- painting, Conroy-Baiter said.
