NIAGARA FALLS – An Ontario company has finished building one of the two boats that will carry passengers towards the base of Niagara Falls from the Canadian side.

A 700-passenger catamaran for Hornblower Niagara Cruises has been completed by Hike Metal of Wheatley, Ont., Hornblower announced Tuesday.

The 121-ton, 85- by 33-foot ship will be used as the company takes over operating the boat rides from the Ontario side next year. The Maid of the Mist Corp. will still operate on the American side.

A second identical boat will be completed later this month, and both will be disassembled and shipped to the Falls in January. They will then be reassembled and tested.
