TOWN OF SOMERSET – A woman who allegedly struck a utility pole in the 1900 block of Johnson Creek Road over the weekend was charged with drunken driving after she was found hiding in a wood pile behind a house near the crash scene, according to Niagara County sheriff’s deputies.

Elizabeth A. Heinz, 26, of Barker, was charged after the crash, which happened just after 4 a.m. Saturday. He vehicle sheared the pole into four pieces, according to deputies, and the Barker Fire Company was called to shut down the road until repairs could be made.

Deputies said when Heinz was found, she had slurred speech, scratches and cuts on her hands and forearms. They said she admitted to drinking, but was unsure where she been or how many drinks she had. She was taken for treatment to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane and charged in the hospital. A court date was set for Dec. 5.
