A bystander was shot in the leg and a suspect arrested after an argument early Saturday in South Buffalo escalated into gunfire.

Brian Farrell, 47, of West Seneca is charged with assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and criminal use of a firearm. South District police said Farrell fired at another person with whom he was arguing in the 2100 block of Seneca Street at about 3:40 a.m. However, the shot missed the intended target and struck another person.

The victim, identified only as male. was taken to Erie County Medical Center. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
