Veterans Appreciation & War History Day planned

The Buffalo History Museum and Shea’s Performing Arts Center, in conjunction with its showing of “War Horse,” will present Veterans Appreciation & War History Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the museum.

The free event will feature the War of 1812 exhibit, “By Fire & Sword: War in the Niagara Theatre 1812-1814” and the “Star Spangled Nation” exhibit produced by the American Society of Marine Artists depicting the War of 1812 by contemporary painters.

There will also be a World War I pop-up exhibit for one day only and interactive craft activities for families inspired by the musical production “War Horse” and its military history.

The first 20 visitors will receive museum and “War Horse” merchandise.

At 7 p.m. Nov. 20, Canisius College Video Institute will present the premiere of “1812: By Fire and Sword,” featuring professional actors and re-enactors. They will tell the stories of the burning of Buffalo, Red Jacket, Laura Secord, Cyrenius Chapin, General McClure and others while recalling events that characterized the War of 1812.
