LOCKPORT – A Buffalo man who was accused of assaulting a nurse at a Niagara Falls hospital was committed to the Rochester Psychiatric Center at his arraignment Friday in Niagara County Court.

Thurmond Walton, 46, pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault in connection with the Aug. 10 incident in the psychiatric unit of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

Assistant Public Defender Michele G. Bergevin said she wanted doctors to examine Walton to see if he is competent to stand trial, and County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III agreed.
