LOCKPORT – A fire did an estimated $85,000 damage to a two-family home at 114 West Ave., at the corner of Hawley Street, early Thursday, Fire Department Capt. Thomas E. Lupo said.
The 2-½-story wooden home is directly across Hawley Street from the Shamus Restaurant, one of Lockport’s best-known eateries.
The blaze was reported around 1:15 a.m., and firefighters remained on the scene until about 8 a.m., Lupo said. There were no injuries.
The house is owned by Larry L. Simons of Lockport, Lupo said. He does not live at the West Ave. building. Both the upper and lower apartments were believed to have female tenants, one of whom has children, but no one was home when firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Lupo said it appears to have started on an outside wall and spread inside from there.
