Lockport woman will try drug treatment behind bars

LOCKPORT – A thief who failed in a court-supervised civilian drug treatment program will enter one in a state prison, Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III ordered Wednesday.

Angela M. Berardi, 40, of Lockport, had failed in the judicial diversion program, but Murphy granted her request to be sent to the state prison system’s secure drug treatment facility at Willard Correctional Facility in the Finger Lakes.

If she succeeds there, she will be paroled in about 90 days, but if she fails, she will serve two to four years in a regular cell.

Berardi pleaded guilty in October 2011 to fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property for stealing a Lockport man’s credit card May 4, 2011, and using it to make purchases at the Lockport Walmart, and for stealing a Lockport woman’s purse from her home the next day.
