LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man was sentenced Wednesday to nine months in the Niagara County Jail because he visited his probation officer only once in three years.

“I never should have put you on probation,” County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas told Keith D. Gainer, 54, of Niagara Street. He had been sentenced in February 2010 on a charge of third-degree assault for striking a man in the side of the head with a large flashlight in a house on 13th Street in the Falls July 25, 2008.

Assistant Public Defender Michael H. White blamed the probation violation on Gainer’s drug addiction.
