Roswell Park, Hospice workers are incredible

Following the recent loss of my wife after a 3½-year battle with endometrial cancer, I made a discovery about life and death.

When we were told the diagnosis in 2010, we went to Roswell Park for operations and treatment. From the moment we arrived, we had the feeling that every person at Roswell Park made it their mission to give assistance, care and comfort to the patients and their families. Every doctor, nurse, staff personnel and volunteer we met after more than 100 visits always showed the same compassion and dedication to us.

After numerous radiation and chemo treatments, the cancer seemed to be gone, only to return three more times. The cancer took over this fragile body in July and could not be treated. We were advised by doctors and staff that our best option was to keep my wife comfortable. At that time Hospice was contacted and we transported her there the same day.

At Hospice we were greeted by the same caliber of people we left at Roswell Park. The stay at Hospice was only five days, but in that time I realized if God made a springboard between this life and the next, it is Hospice.

The Buffalo area is very fortunate to have these people-made institutions. God bless all those who helped our families through this difficult time. Their dedication to humanity is a blessing for many.
