Fire damages residential-business complex in Fredonia

FREDONIA - Thirteen residents were displaced after a fire Sunday afternoon damaged a commercial and residential building, village fire officials said.

The blaze, which broke out shortly before 2:30 p.m. at One Park Place, was reported by owners of the Kangaroo Cafe. There was significant fire and smoke damage to electrical panels in the basement, the Fredonia Fire Department said.

Gas and electrical utilities had to be shut off and there was minor smoke damage to businesses and offices located directly above where the fire occurred.

Assistance was provided by City of Dunkirk Fire, East Town of Dunkirk Fire, Fredonia Police, Alstar Ambulance and the Chautauqua County Fire Investigators. Electricity to the building remained cut off until the damaged electrical panels could be replaced.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents. Further information was unavailable.
