East Side fire platoon battles two blazes

Buffalo firefighters rescued two people from a burning house on the city’s East Side early Sunday morning.

The occupants of a home at 56 Wasmuth Ave. were saved from the blaze, while one firefighter was injured responding to the fire and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Damage to the building is estimated at $50,000 and cause of the fire is being investigated.

The same group of firefighters – from the 3rd Battalion, 1st Platoon – also extinguished a fire in a 1½-story house at 53 Quincy St. late Saturday. Damage to that house was put at $25,000 and damage to neighboring structures, $3,000.
