Lockport burglar booted from drug treatment, could serve 15 years

LOCKPORT – Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas kicked a Lockport man out of a court-supervised drug treatment program Friday, setting him up for a prison sentence of as long as 15 years.

Adam E. Lemay, 32, had pleaded guilty in July 2011 to second-degree burglary for breaking into an apartment on Genesee Street in Lockport on Oct. 26, 2010, and stealing beer and food. He was assigned to drug treatment instead of being sentenced.

After an hour-long hearing, Farkas ruled that Lemay had shown he was unwilling to follow the rules of the judicial diversion program. He had failed two drug tests by using marijuana and tried to go to Erie County, where his girlfriend lives, without clearing it with his probation officer. Lemay was jailed to await sentencing Jan. 10.
