Amherst chef struck by car driven by off duty transit officer

An Amherst corporate chef walking to work across South Youngs Road remained hospitalized Wednesday evening after he was struck by a car driven by an off duty Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority transit police officer about 6:20 a.m., according to Amherst police.

Robert C. Frank, 34, of Buffalo, was crossing South Youngs road just north of Wherle Drive when he was struck by a southbound car driven by Russell M. Alaimo, 55, of Williamsville.

Frank, a cafeteria chef at the Ingram Micro facility near the accident scene, was admitted to Erie County Medical Center in serious condition with multiple injuries.

Alaimo, who was driving to work at the time, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.
