Alden High School is getting a new flagpole, and the dedication ceremony will be held on Friday at 6:45 p.m. at the high school athletic field.
The need for a new flagpole was discovered when the district did a review of its facilities, said Interim Superintendent Adam Stoltman at last Thursday night’s school board meeting.
“We needed to make improvements on how we fly the American flag,” he said.
The pole will be dedicated to all servicemen and servicewomen past, present and future from Alden. The flag will fly 24-hours-a-day, and will be illuminated by a solar-powered light at night.
The dedication ceremony is taking place right before the final home game for the varsity football team. All members of the armed services and veterans are invited to participate, and will receive free admission into the game by showing their military ID.
