Former Fort Erie councillor’s home destroyed by fire

RIDGEWAY, Ont. – The home of former Fort Erie town councillor Tim Whitfield was destroyed in a two-alarm fire early Saturday, Fort Erie Fire Chief Larry Coplen said.

The blaze caused an estimated $300,000 damage to the structure and contents of the two-story home at 3131 Young Ave., Ridgeway. It broke out shortly before 5 a.m. The Whitfield family was not home at the time, and no injuries were reported, Coplen said.

The house, two blocks from the Lake Erie shore, will be condemned, the fire chief said. The cause is under investigation but is not regarded as suspicious, Coplen said.
