Southern Tier snowfall outdone by northeast Ohio

Areas of the Southern Tier from the Chautauqua Ridge south saw some snow accumulation overnight Wednesday and into Thursday.

One spotter in Frewsburg reported 3 inches of snow by Thursday morning. Additional accumulation was expected in those areas and others farther south and west.

“The west-northwest wind is blowing the snow south of Buffalo,” said David Thomas, National Weather Service meteorologist, who added that a few wet flakes might also mix in with rain around metro Buffalo.

Meanwhile, Cleveland and northeast Ohio were hammered when a lake-effect snowstorm dumped several inches overnight Wednesday, with as much as six more inches expected throughout Thursday, felling trees and causing power outages.
