The state Department of Environmental Conservation will issue about 35,000 deer permits to hunters who were previously denied this fall.

The DEC randomly selected from those names last week and has begun mailing out the permits to harvest antlerless deer. This year, the agency received fewer applications than expected. Some new requests will be considered for the leftover permits. For more information about availability and location, check www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/6399.html and www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8302.html.
