Vehicle crashes into a Cambria house following two-car accident

CAMBRIA – Emergency crews were called to the scene of a two-car crash at Plank and Ridge roads at about 10:15 a.m. today in which the vehicles sideswiped each other and one ended up hitting a house.

A car traveling southbound on North Ridge Road and headed toward Plank Road, failed to stop as the driver turned left onto Ridge Road and was struck by the eastbound driver on Ridge Road, said Niagara County Sheriff Capt. Gregory Schuey. He said both vehicles sideswiped each other.

Schuey said the eastbound driver swerved off Ridge Road to avoid a direct hit and sideswiped a house at 4524 Ridge Road at the corner of Plank Road. Large tire tracks remained cut into the grass where the car had gone off Ridge Road. Schuey said the vehicle did not breach the house but hit some bushes next to the house and sideswiped a gas meter. New York State Electric and Gas crews and a building inspector were called to the scene.

Homeowner Cheryl Taylor, a head bus driver for Ridge Road Express, said she got a call at work telling her to head home because someone drove into her house.

“Was I surprised? Not at all. I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen,” Taylor said when asked about the crash.

“People don’t stop at the corner,” she said, pointing to the stop sign on Plank Road. “And there’s a big curve,” she said pointing west down Ridge Road.

Taylor said there have been a number of accidents at the intersection.

Schuey said injuries to the two drivers and a passenger, whose names were not released, were not believed to be serious. He said one woman who complained of pain and confusion was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center as a precaution due to a possible head injury. The other two were taken by ambulance, one to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane and the other to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston.

No charges have been released.

Ridge Road was briefly closed to traffic.
