An armed security guard shot one man and grazed another after nearly being struck by the two men’s fleeing vehicle in the Tops parking lot at Grant and Amherst streets Sunday night, Buffalo police reported today.

And detectives believe that confrontation followed a shoplifting incident involving the two suspects.

Initial police reports indicated that the vehicle carrying the two suspects collided with another vehicle before nearly striking the security officer shortly after 8 p.m.

The guard then shot at the fleeing vehicle, striking the 44-year-old driver, while the 23-year-old passenger was grazed with fragments, The two men then drove to Erie County Medical Center, where the driver was listed in stable condition and the passenger was released after treatment.

The 42-year-old male security guard was not injured, and no charges have been filed, police said.
