Maryann Stein, director of international programs at the Erie County Industrial Development Agency, will join the Binational Alliance as director of trade development. The alliance has also moved to a new office, at the lower level of 92 Pearl St. in Buffalo. It was formerly based at the ECIDA’s offices on Oak Street, which have since relocated to the Cobblestone District.


Phillips Lytle partner David P. Flynn will give two presentations at the 2013 Chautauqua County Energy Conference & Expo. Flynn’s presentations on alternative energy, titled “Hydrofracking: Understanding the facts and issues of Marcellus and Utica Shale,” will take place Nov. 1, with a second session on Nov. 2. The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency sponsors the annual event, at the Chautauqua Suites and Expo Center in Mayville.


Consumer Credit Counseling of Buffalo president and chief executive officer Paul Atkinson was named vice chairman of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling’s operating board at its annual conference recently. The NFCC provides financial education and credit counseling in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Company Connections

The University at Buffalo School of Management’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership was named a Top 100 Champion in the 2013 Small Business Influencer Awards by Small Business Trends. The center was recognized for promoting business growth through leadership development and experiential learning, enhancing the management abilities of business leaders and building new business relationships through an expanded network of contacts.


Empire Education Group recently opened its newest school, Empire Beauty School, in Cheektowaga. The school at 2190 Walden Ave. is the sixth Empire Beauty School in New York, bringing to 110 the number of Empire locations nationwide.


SUNY Buffalo State received the 2013 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, a diversity-focused publication in higher education. Buffalo State will be featured along with 55 other recipients in Insight Into Diversity magazine’s November issue.
