Inmate charged with flooding city jail

NIAGARA FALLS – A woman prisoner was charged with felony criminal mischief for allegedly breaking a sprinkler head and flooding her cell in the City Jail between 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday. Damages are listed at $1,750.

According to jailers, they heard the fire alarm and found water spraying into the cell of Christine G. Altman, 33, of 13th Street. The sprinkler was shut down and several cells had to be cleaned.

Altman told police that she was lying down when the top of the sprinkler flew off and hit her, cutting the top of her hand. She said she had a bruise on her palm because she got up quickly and hit a bench. Rural Metro Ambulance was called to attend to her injuries.

According to jailers, Altman was not lying down, but was up and awake at the last check.
