Aurora, East Aurora

A public hearing for the proposed Town of Aurora budget, with a tax decrease for some residents, is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Southside Municipal Center. It features savings in staff costs, such as the tax receiver duties becoming part of the town clerk’s job. Aurora also retired about $60,000 in water bond debt, which helped the budget to drop from its $8.997 million this year to the proposed 2014 spending plan of $8.939 million, said Supervisor Jolene Jeffe.

The budget total may change slightly to reflect one fire district budget that has yet to be submitted, said Jeffe.

By Thursday of next week, she intends to post on the Aurora website – www.townofaurora.com – the same budget presentation she will deliver to the hearing audience Tuesday.

Details of the proposal include:

• Village residents’ increase would be 2 cents per thousand. Homes with $100,000 assessed value, or a market value of $244,000, would see a tax rise to $289 from $287.

• Residents outside the village may see a decrease 3 cents per thousand. Tax on homes with a $100,000 in assessed value would drop from $710 to $707.

Also this week:

• The East Aurora Village Board will hold a 6:30 p.m. work session with updates on the new fire station before its Monday meeting. The regular session begins at 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 571 Main Street.
