Local rowers off to Boston

The Head of the Charles, one of the continent’s top rowing events, will be taking place today and Sunday on Boston’s Charles River. The field of competitors will have some Western New York connections.

The West Side Rowing Club has entered the Varsity Women’s 4+ on Sunday. The boat includes Ashley Johnson (Clarence), Emily Radziwon (Orchard Park), Emily Evans (City Honors), Chloe Keating (Sacred Heart) and Claire Conrad (Buffalo Seminary). The WSRC also has boats in the women’s alumnae eights and the parent/child doubles.

In addition, there are some local family connections in the regatta. Catherine Karas is in the varsity 8 for Nardin, and Andrew Karas and Mike Hamp are competing in the varsity lightweight 8 for Navy. Brian Hamp will row for Canisius High School, and Jamie Hamp is rowing for Princeton.

Canisius High School and Nardin Academy have two boats competing on Sunday.
