Orleans jail officer hurt in altercation with inmate

ALBION – Janet H. Koehler, an Orleans County Jail corrections officer, was injured in an altercation with an inmate Wednesday morning and was undergoing medical evaluation at Medina Memorial Hospital,

Sheriff Scott D. Hess said Koehler, a 15-year veteran of the force, was injured by inmate Jeremy J. Rothmund, 30, during an incident about 10:30 a.m. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation of apparently non-life-threatening injuries.

Rothmund was in the jail following his arrest for an Albion bank robbery in July. Charges against Rothmund for the jail incident are pending, and the New York State Commission of Correction, which oversees the operation of county jails and correctional facilities, is conducting its own investigation of the incident, the sherif
