Buffalo police warned the public Wednesday about cellphone robberies near D’Youville College on the city’s West Side and in other parts of the city.

In a handful of recent incidents, suspects have come upon victims and snatched phones from their hands as they were walking. Police said the public should avoid being distracted by using cellphones or other electronic devices, and be aware of their surroundings and, if possible, travel in groups.

Anyone with information regarding cellphone robberies is asked to call or text the Buffalo Police Confidential TIPCALL line at (716) 847-2255.
