OP’s Spitz shoots par to win ECIC golf title by three strokes

Orchard Park junior Erich Spitz shot even-par 72 Tuesday to win the ECIC boys golf league individual championship and sectional qualifier at Diamond Hawk Golf Course in Cheektowaga.

Spitz finished three strokes in front of J.P. Rehak, a junior from Williamsville South, and Jon Needham, a West Seneca West senior. They each shot 75. Rehak earned second place on a matching of cards.

Orchard Park senior Adam Patronik, Matt Vona of Lake Shore and A.J. Feldman of Eden all shot 76 to finish fourth through sixth.

Next came Griffin Fitzpatrick (Frontier), Bradley Belote (Lancaster) and Mitch Feneziani (West Seneca West) with 77s. The top nine made the ECIC All-Star team.

Twenty-four golfers qualified for next spring’s Section VI championship. Ben Reichert of Williamsville North made it on an exemption.

Divisional all-stars are:

Large School North—Rehak, Andrew Kempton (Clarence), Matt Lesinski (Wmsvl. North), Tim Kreuz (Wmsvl. North), Chris Yustin (Wmsvl. East), Mike Kessler (Wmsvl. North), Reichert and Randy Felber (Clarence).

Large School South—Spitz, Needham, Patronik, Fitzpatrick, Belote, Feneziani, Ian Wilson (Hamburg), Brendan Kelly (W. Seneca West), Jack Devic (OP), Kyle Nichter (Ham.), and Zach Stebbins (OP).

Small School North— Will Hoffman, Sean Brown, Nick Larson, John Zaccarella, Andrew Murchison, Will Ritchie (Starpoint), Shane Gerace (Depew), and Nick Zielinski (Maryvale).

Small School South—Vona, Feldman, Aaron Orechwa (Eden), Alec Lezama (Lake Shore), Dallas Meyers (Iro.), Zach Felder (E. Aurora), Trevor Dobrzenski (Eden) and Steve Kaufmann (Iro.).
