Man, 22, sentenced to 24 years in fatal shooting

A Buffalo man was sentenced today to 24 years in prison for fatally shooting a man last year on the city’s East Side.

Laquann Morgan, 22, of Comstock Avenue, was accused of shooting two men Jan. 8, 2012, in a parked car at Dodge Street and Wohlers Avenue.

Adrian L. Huggins Jr., 25, was shot multiple times in the head and body and died 11 days later at Erie County Medical Center. The driver was shot twice and survived.

Huggins had just gotten out of his friend’s car when witnesses said a gunman fired repeatedly into the vehicle.

Morgan pleaded guilty last month to first-degree manslaughter before State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns, according to District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney James F. Bargnesi, head of the District Attorney’s homicide bureau.
