Woman pulled from car seconds before it erupts in flames

A Silver Creek woman who was trapped in her car following a single-vehicle crash was rescued by Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies and a passerby, who were able to break a window and pull her out of her seat just seconds before the car became engulfed in flames this morning.

Valerie A. Roach, 28, of Elm Street crashed on Route 83 in the Town of Villanova at 5:20 a.m. Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies said they found the car engulfed in flames when they arrived and attempted to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but it spread. Roach was pinned in the driver’s seat but deputies and a passerby pulled her out before the flames spread to the entire vehicle.

After being pulled from her car, she was treated on the scene by South Dayton and Cassadaga fire personnel and then flown to Erie County Medical Center by Starflight. There was no immediate word on her injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, according to deputies.
