Niagara Falls fundraiser aims to fight bullying

WHEATFIELD – The Kiwanis Club of Niagara Falls is holding a fundraiser next week to fight bullying.

“Bash Against the Bullies” will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. next Sunday at Frontier Fire Hall, 2176 Liberty Drive, Wheatfield.

The event is intended to do more than just raise awareness about bullying, said Ron O’Callaghan, a board member with the club who is organizing the event.

O’Callaghan is frustrated by stories he hears from families of children victimized by bullies. He said more should be done to help people in those situations.

The final decision on what to do with proceeds has not been made, but education will be a key component, O’Callaghan said.

Plans may include bringing in a professional counselor to sit down and talk with those affected by bullying. O’Callaghan wants to create a safe environment where parents and children can discuss problems as well as solutions.

Sunday’s event will include entertainment from two bands, Billy Hickey Live and the Generation Gap, as well as the Mone Dance Company.

There will also be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and basket auction, and food and beverages.

Tickets are $10 presale or $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Sammy’s Pizzeria on Hyde Park Boulevard or Justin Tyme Cafe & Catering on Cayuga Drive Extension.

Tickets may also be purchased by calling O’Callaghan at 282-2550 or 622-3903. He said he will deliver tickets, too.
