Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries suffered in crash

LOCKPORT - An Amherst motorcyclist who was critically injured in a crash with a minivan on South Transit Road last week has died, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday night.

Authorities said William A. Carrigan died Saturday at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo from injuries suffered in the crash, which happened at South Transit and Rapids roads about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Carrigan’s passenger, identified late Sunday as Karin Young of Lockport, remains in good condition at ECMC, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Last week, investigators said Carrigan was northbound on South Transit when the minivan turned in front of his cycle. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the minivan and both Carrigan and Young were ejected from the motorcycle.

The driver of the minivan, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene for her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
