Republicans could learn a lot from Pope Francis
On a recent visit to Assisi, the humble, intelligent and charitable Pope Francis called on Christians to “divest themselves of worldliness, which leads to vanity, arrogance and pride” because it is bad for us. In my view, the tea party faction of the Republican Party is being arrogant in its demands to eliminate the Affordable Care Act or shut down the government.
The pope also says Christians must strive to become “instruments of peace” and not “instruments of destruction.” Sen. Ted Cruz is a Southern Baptist and I would suspect others in his court are Christians as well. Their actions are destructive and divisive as seen by the government shutdown they have created.
I wish the Republicans would unify and heed the words and modeling of Pope Francis.
