Lackawanna police officer hurt in two-car accident

A Lackawanna police officer suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was hit by shortly after noon Friday in the first block of Ingham Street.

The officer was traveling east on Ridge Road when a westbound driver who reportedly was texting swerved, forcing the officer to veer off the road. The officer, whose name was not released, was treated at Mercy Hospital for minor injuries.

The driver, Shawn Semple, 32, of Buffalo, was ticketed for texting while driving, driving with a suspended license and making an unsafe lane change.

At about the same time, a car heading down Ingham veered into a house as the driver and his passenger reportedly were arguing. Both were treated for minor injuries and police said the foundation of the house was damaged.
