A Town of Tonawanda man was arrested Thursday and charged with demanding money from an acquaintance and threatening him with violence.

Brian Morath, whose age and address were not released, is accused of taking $70,000 from the victim over the past two months.

Investigators say Morath threatened the victim with violence and later threatened to have a woman relative claim the victim had raped her.

Morath’s arrest is the result of an investigation by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force.
