Eileen Silvers, class of ’70, funds visiting professorship

A 1970 graduate has pledged $500,000 to help the University at Buffalo establish a visiting professorship in her name in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Eileen Silvers WBFO Visiting Professorship in Arts and Humanities is the first professorship to be funded from proceeds from the sale of radio station WBFO-FM last year.

Silvers, who majored in history at UB, earned a law degree from Columbia University and went on to become the topmost woman administrator at Bristol Meyers Squibb.

She has served on the UB Dean’s Advisory Council and the UB Foundation board.

Her bequest helps meet a challenge from UB President Satish K. Tripathi to endow five new professorships in the arts, letters and humanities.
