Couple charged after police raid Black Rock apartment

A couple allegedly tried to escape late Tuesday through the rear door of an apartment in Buffalo’s Black Rock neighborhood, where a search by Erie County sheriff’s deputies and Buffalo police yielded various drugs packaged for sale.

Officers from the narcotics units of both agencies went to a Janice St. address at about 9 p.m. Tuesday with a search warrant signed by state Supreme Court Justice Timothy J. Drury.

Deputies said that Curtis R. Johnson, 37, and Erin Cameron, 22, were subdued by officers as they tried to flee. The couple was in possession of a loaded pistol that had been reported stolen in Demopolis, Ala., deputies said.

Approximately 75 bags of heroin, as well as marijuana and crack cocaine packaged for sale, were recovered from the apartment, deputies said. The street value of the drugs wasn’t disclosed.

Johnson and Cameron were arrested on multiple charges, including felony counts of possession of drugs, a weapon and stolen property. They also were charged with several misdemeanors, including endangering the welfare of a child; deputies said Johnson’s 15-year-old son was downstairs.

The couple was taken to the county Holding Center pending arraignment in Buffalo City Court.
