OLCOTT – Witnesses alerted the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office after they saw a pickup stuck on the beach after almost driving into Lake Ontario just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Charles R. Hawk, 52, of West Main Street, was charged with driving while intoxicated, violating a license restriction and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Deputies found Hawk’s white Ford Ranger stuck on the beach, still running.

A caller told deputies the pickup had nearly driven toward the lake from Beach Street in Olcott. He said he watched as the pickup drove into a parking area from Beach Street, then got stuck in the beach area, between the lake and the street.

Several people were trying to free the vehicle from the beach when deputies arrived and Hawk was identified as the driver.
