Martha Louise Weaver Burke, active in community

Martha Louise Weaver Burke, who was active in local community organizations, died Monday at Canterbury Woods, Amherst. She was 92.

She was born in Buffalo, graduated from Amherst High School and earned an associate’s degree from Stephens College. She worked for several years in administration for American Airlines.

Mrs. Burke was a longtime member of the Twentieth Century Club, the Country Club of Buffalo and Wanakah Country Club, and was a former president of the Buffalo Parents Association at the Park School.

She was a fourth-generation resident of Lotus Bay on Lake Erie. Her interests included knitting, needlepoint and painting.

She was the widow of Thomas William Burke, who was president and chief executive officer of American Steamship Co. They were married 50 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Burke Gibbs, and two sons, Timothy and Michael.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton St., Williamsville.
