Hartland woman accepts plea in burglary case

LOCKPORT – A Town of Hartland woman accepted a plea in State Supreme Court on Friday, admitting she had participated in a burglary with a co-defendant.

Kimberly A. Leonard, 42, of Orangeport Road, told State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. that she and a co-defendant had attempted to burglarize a home in the 7500 block of Ridge Road on Feb. 19 and pleaded guilty to a reduced charged of attempted third-degree burglary. She was given a reduced plea in exchange for testifying against her co-defendant, James W. Kohl, according to Assistant District Attorney Joseph A. Scalzo.

Restitution was capped at $3,000 as part of the plea. In addition she was ordered to enter a substance abuse treatment program and could face up to four years in prison if she does not complete treatment, Kloch said. Sentencing was set for Dec. 6.
