Child Advocacy Center sets session on family violence

NIAGARA FALLS – The Child Advocacy Center will welcome 200 professionals from across New York and Ontario today for its 15th annual Family Violence Intervention Project conference, “Safe at Home: Seeking Solutions for Adult and Child Victims of Family Violence” at the Conference and Event Center of Niagara Falls.

The conference features national speakers who train attendees on state-of-the-art techniques to both prevent and intervene in cases of child abuse and domestic violence.

The keynote speaker is Lundy Bancroft, the author of “The Batterer as Parent.” Bancroft is a domestic abuse and child maltreatment counselor and will examine the profile of men who abuse women, describing the power dynamics and poisoned atmosphere an abuser creates for children in his home.

Workshops with national speakers are being held on other topics, including behavior therapy following trauma, the role of technology in sexual abuse and teen dating violence.
