Anne I. Matuszak, of Cheektowaga, a retired registered nurse, died Sunday in Garden Gate Health Care Center, Cheektowaga. She was 85.
Born Anne Griffin in Lackawanna, she was a graduate of Lackawanna High School and began her nursing career as a candy striper when she was a teenager. She studied nursing at Millard Fillmore Hospital.
A former South Buffalo resident, she was a registered nurse for more than 40 years at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Lackawanna, primarily on the night shift, and met her husband of 54 years, Richard, when he was a patient there.
Mrs. Matuszak and her husband moved to Crossville, Tenn., after her retirement in 1990. They returned to the Buffalo area in 2002.
An avid bowler and golfer, she played in leagues for many years. She also was active in social clubs and enjoyed many crafts.
Her husband died in 2003.
Survivors include three sons, Richard, Raymond and Russell, and four daughters, Dr. Diane, Michele Wdowik, Moira Rivera and Mary Margaret.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 a.m. Friday in Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 4220 Seneca St., West Seneca.
