Buffalo should replace Skyway with a tunnel
In 1980, at the then Hilton Hotel, Clement Chen was honored by his colleagues in the architectural industry as architect of the year, at the hotel he had designed and built near Buffalo’s waterfront. At his presentation, he outlined his vision for Buffalo’s future.
One thing he stressed was that building the Skyway at the eastern end of Lake Erie was not such a good idea. He said his plan was for a tunnel connecting the then Fuhrmann Boulevard with downtown Buffalo, thereby eliminating the closing of such an important roadway to Buffalo during high winds and snow.
