A trip to the dentist will be less painful to the wallets of Elmwood Village residents next Saturday, when a team of dentists will open their offices to perform free services to the uninsured.
Dr. Bob’s Dental Care is the Buffalo participant in what has become a tradition of providing no-charge care one day each year. The national not-for-profit, Dentistry from the Heart, holds the event with hundreds of volunteer dentists. They define their mission with the simple statement “making people smile.”
More than 100 million Americans lack dental insurance and nearly one in three adults has untreated cavities, the organization reports.
In the Elmwood Village, Robert LaCarrubba has been giving the free care for the last four years.
“We plan to treat over 300 patients on this day, coordinating with a team of my associates to perform free extractions, fillings or cleanings to take care of as many folks as we can,” he said in a news release.
The free day yields thousands of dollars in dental services for the smile-challenged of Western New York.
Dr. Bob’s office, at 892 Elmwood Ave., will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Saturday.
LaCarrubba recommends that anyone who wants to be treated should register at the office starting at 7:45 a.m.; each person will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. He urges prospective patients to come prepared with blankets, snacks and water because a line is expected to form outside.
