A Kingston man was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to 70 months in federal prison for importing Ecstasy from Canada into the U.S.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas S. Duszkiewicz said John Joseph Stasinski, 35, was a passenger on a bus coming from Toronto bound for New York City when law enforcement officers at the Peace Bridge noticed what appeared to be a bulge in his back.

Duszkiewicz said a secondary inspection revealed two duct-taped packages, each containing one kilogram of Ecstasy.

Defense lawyer Barry N. Covert said his client was ”grateful that Judge Arcara gave him the lowest sentence within the guideline range.”
