A woman who died early Thursday in a Derby house fire has been identified as Teresa Van Cheri, 52.
She was reportedly trapped in a second-floor bedroom.
The fire at 6892 Hamilton Drive was reported at 2:18 a.m., Evans police said.
There was heavy smoke inside the home and the woman’s husband was unable to reach her, according to fire dispatch.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name initially was withheld by police, pending notification of relatives.
Firefighters who responded to the alarm reported heavy flames coming from the 2½-story structure. One firefighter was treated at the scene for an injury but did not require hospitalization.
Evans police and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
