Curry Walk man faces burglary and other charges

A 35-year-old Curry Walk man was arrested on first-degree burglary and numerous other charges for allegedly breaking into a Proctor Avenue home and using a crowbar to beat a resident he unexpectedly found in a second-floor flat and then crashing his getaway car at Hempstead Avenue and Suffolk Street and being caught in a foot chase along Langfield Drive about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Edmund Bowie was also charged with first-degree assault, second-degree burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, menacing, harassment and obstruction of justice.

Bowie was charged with beating the Proctor Avenue victim in the right hip and right knee, left shoulder and abdomen with his alleged crowbar weapon with smashing the windshield of a parked car as he raced to his own car in an effort to flee, poice said.
