BATAVIA – Genesee Community College is planning two talks at its campus centers in Orleans County as part of its continuing series of programs commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Both are free and open to the public.

Historian Don Burkel, executive director and downtown manager of the Batavia Business Improvement District, will talk at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at GCC Albion, 456 West Ave. His topic will be Gen. Emory Upton, a Genesee County native and a brilliant military strategist.

GCC professor Tim Palmer will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Medina Campus Center, 11470 Maple Ridge Road, on “A Unique Paradigm for Understanding the Civil War.”
